SURF WARRIORS | ALISON ALLCOCK | NSW
What can old surfboards tell us about this place? Once regarded as an alternative or fringe activity, these pieces stand as a salute to the pioneers of the Gold Coast’s surfing culture. They are free spirited surf ‘warriors’ who explored the coast in a quest to find and conquer the perfect wave. Alison works with materials and objects found in her neighbourhood. Her work involves transformation – in this case from surfboards to an armoury of arrows, spears and harpoons.

FABRICATED | KYMBERLEY MCELROY | QLD
Fabricated explores both traditional and contemporary notions of leisure. Reminiscent of a childhood ‘paint-by-numbers’, Fabricated embraces the principles of plein air painting by providing a canvas with a view to capturing the elusive atmosphere of an ever-changing landscape, as a slow, methodical needlework scene. Here the public are encouraged to contribute to the social fabric.
