Make a
reinforced resin sculpture from clay, using plaster moulding techniques.
This one
day workshop is designed for people with a yearning to create sculptures that are simple
to make, and will last many years. The techniques learned can then be used to
make larger works in the future.
What you
will gain from this day...
You will
gain a clear understanding of safety aspects of working with resins and
plaster, making a marquette and then a small sculpture from clay, plaster one
piece ‘waste’ moulding techniques, methods of using reinforced resins to make a
long lasting work, several methods of finishing the surfaces of the works and a
sculpture to take home on the day!
What to
bring...
Pencils,
rubber, cheap drawing pad, your imagination and a digital camera if
possible. Closed solid shoes, clothes that can get dirty and lunch money
to grab a bite to eat from one the the yummy cafes in Tugun.

OUTLINE
Before lunch:
·
Students
will be shown several drawing techniques with emphasis on drawing for 3
dimensional outcomes.
·
Clay
will be used to make small maquette to guide the process. Clay will be provided
·
Each
student will create a clay sculpture from their drawings or small clay
maquette.
·
Students
will make a one piece plaster mould of their sculpture
After lunch:
·
Plaster
moulds will be prepared and laid up with reinforced resins
·
A
small work will be made from plaster to understand the material
·
Plaster
moulds removed to finish any flaws in the resin materials.
·
Demonstrations of several methods of finishing the works
to look like rusted steel, bronze, marble etc.
·
Discussions
and demonstrations relating to a multimedia approach to making sculpture
will be explored.
· Shown methods and techniques to photograph the works highlighting special features & technical features.
·
The
final works will be taken home on the day of the workshop.

About Col Henry...
Col Henry has been recognized as an innovator, not an
imitator, and his unique work has developed over 40 years of dedication to his
art.
His practice is characterized by conceptual agility,
inventiveness, knowledge of the language of sculpture, and his poetic, romantic
and elegant associations. He is concerned with the energy of form in relation
to the space in which it interacts, remaining true to the materials, while
reflecting on the natural form and its environment.
He has continually conducted Sculpture Classes for the
last 20 years in his studio in Wyong Creek, in the Yarramalong Valley, NSW.
He is regularly involved in many forms of artistic
endeavor, including major Public Commissions, helping community groups and many
local schools and volunteering to achieve excellence in art and art awareness.
Col Henry has studied for many years in pursuit of his
artistic endeavor, including related Degrees, Diplomas and countless
Certificates and short courses. He has been collected in Australia and Overseas
in many Private Collections.
