Artist in residence program
The Artist in Residence Program is a collaborative venture between the Swell Sculpture Festival and Crossing Divides.
The Currumbin Crossing Divides Project is a Creative Industries program that allows young people aged 15-26 to grasp their creative potential, create career pathways and provide skills and abilities support for the art industry.
During the months of August and September local artist Mark Warne worked on location creating his sand stone sculpture for the Swell Sculpture Festival. The initiative was motivated by supporting artists and emerging artists through responsive mentor training, strengthening partnerships and inspiring community involvement through open viewing sessions and workshops.
The program has enabled community members to observe Mark Warne creating his sculpture, to learn and discuss with Mark on the subject of his own creative processes. This direct exposure and contact with the artist and participation in hands on arts
practice, demonstrates the willingness of the community to learn about the sculpture process.
