PRESENTED BY DIVISION 2
When art meets science, and in particular the astronomical phenomena of light, space and time, how is this perceived by the human eye and what does this invoke within our self?
Northerly SWELL connects the two furthermost points of the Gold Coast – north and south. We can explore this connection of space as an experience of sculpture in an up-close environment at the Helensvale Library and Cultural Centre. Vanessa Stanley’s sculpture Your Universe reinterprets her time spent with scientists to locate hidden aspects of their work to reveal intrigue to those who experience Vanessa’s work. The large scale woven sculpture embodies the belief that perception and perspective are pivotal to our progress and to our survival.
Your Universe will focus attention on the space within the sky hole, to heighten perception and sense of ‘seeing’, to connect to nature and things beyond themselves. This uncomplicated yet striking experience at the Helensvale Library and Cultural Centre will gently introduce you to Your Universe, as you sit or lay within the sculpture and view the day or night sky through the top aperture hole.
This sculpture embodies the belief that perception and perspective are pivotal to our progress and to our survival.
Step inside your universe and see...
