About Kannitha Ly

Kannitha Ly is a multidisciplinary artist. Her work encompasses sculpture, installation art, printmaking, ceramics and papermaking. Ly appreciates the gesture that the sense of materiality offers within her work. She utilises various mediums and techniques and draws on elements of the everyday to impart its inherent nature and history to her artwork. In past projects she has incorporated recycled clothing, old maps, newspapers and eucalyptus leaves into her art pieces to subtly reference notions of people, life, societal events and norms and the built and natural environment. These ideas relate to her interest in suburbia, society and the environment.

2022 SWELL ARTWORK – ‘Dear Friend,’ Kannitha Ly

Fibres of old rags capture the flow of ink, allowing the hands, heart and mind to touch, feel, discover, lust for, and experience the moment. It is an embodiment of epistolary proportions that connect the sense of absence and presence, and reveal the voice of the authentic self. The correspondences shared piece together an existence that parallels life’s path.
The floral language is incorporated to visually reflect the sentiments of letters, the self and the journey.
