What was the inspiration behind the piece that is a part of the SWELL Sculpture Festival 2021?

We are always concerned about cyclist safety and trying to promote cycling as a safe and sustainable mode of transport, with safe being the operative word. We felt we could illustrate this best with a kinetic piece.

Do you follow a process or plan for each new piece or do you ‘wing it’?

No, we always have an idea that forms the basis of our work. Then we wing it during fabrication using found and repurposed items to build the work. This means we need to remain flexible and adaptive as we go.

Would you describe your artistic journey as a slow burn or a wild ride?

Slow burn, late starters, moody and brooding.

Can you tell us a little bit more about how you became the artist that you are today?

I am only half the artist I used to be.

Describe your ideal environment where your creative juices flow?

The shed with crew, beer and tools.

Is there an artist or body of work that you would consider your muse?

No, we are not that focused.

If you had to choose 3 words to describe your artistic style, what would they be?

Reactionary, recycled, rubbish.

Beyond SWELL 2021, is there a forthcoming project you are most excited about?

Yes. SWELL 2022.

What does exhibiting in SWELL 2021 mean to you?

It is an honour. It also is a way for our crew to engage with public art.

Is there anything you do to continue developing as an artist? Would you describe yourself as self-taught or formally educated in your practice?

Lots self taught.

If you were to go on a holiday, would you venture to the ocean or the mountains?

Both if I could.

Gourmet restaurant or home-cooked meal?

Home is gourmet.

How would you describe your taste in music?

Diverse.
