Jeff Raglus VIC – BONEYARD or BONEHEAD.

What’s your favourite aspect of being an artist?

The freedom, the lack of ‘normal’ timeframes  and the pleasure of doing what you actually love for a living.

Do you have a favourite material you like to work with?

Acrylics and wood.

Would you rather share an Uber with Barbara Hepworth or Cornelia Parker or Antony Gormley?

Barb.

If you could meet any artist (from the past or present) who would it be?

Paul Klee.

What are you most excited for about SWELL?

Being somewhere warm in September!

Is there a creative process or method you go through to think of your next piece or do ideas strike you when you don’t expect it?

I hardly ever have ‘Artists block’ so I approach it like a normal job, but also looking at where I’ve just been with my recent paintings is usually enough to get me started onto the next ‘new’ phase.

Are you most productive on a beautiful sunny day or rainy gloomy day?

No difference… except sunny days are too tempting to be outside…surfing? walking?

Beach goer or city slicker or outback lover?

I live at the beach but i’m an ex city guy and really thats my roots!  So, I love both!

Is there something you aim to achieve during your career as an artist?

To find the pure simple essence of what I’ve been trying to say for probably 50 years or so.
To distil it… To simplify it. That’s my aim.

Red, blue or yellow?

Yellow.

How do you think SWELL Sculpture brings art and the local community together?

Not sure , because I’ve never been there for SWELL, but I did surf the alley one time about 6 years back and thought Currumbin had a great feeling and we actually finished a half written song in the car park afterwards. The Song is called ‘Wild White Wine’ and the title came to me out in the water at Currumbin!

How many SWELL Sculpture Festivals have you been too?

None.
