MEET DANIEL CLEMMETT

What was the inspiration behind your piece for SWELL Sculpture Festival 2022?

I’ve been watching too much children’s television.  I’m interested in the apparent metaphors in the show and how it relates to the contemporary.

What does exhibiting in the 20th year of SWELL Sculpture Festival mean to you?

It’s great! Hopefully will cross the border for the first time in years! SWELL has prevailed through COVID and continues to be the best outdoor sculpture show in Australia.

Do you think coriander tastes like soap?

I’m a Gemini, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.

What might people be surprised to learn about you?

Good with children. Reads lots of books since stopping social media.

Do you have any artist pet peeves? What are they?

No, aside from my own artist shortcomings of missing openings, and as a Gemini, I’m really annoyed with myself at least half the time.

You went to grab your favourite mug, but have found a Genie living inside of it – what are your three wishes?

  1. Basic universal income.
  2. Democracy that’s less rigged by the status quo.
  3. A vaccine to shorten the lifespan of every first world privileged inhabitant of planet earth.

Are there any budding artists that you’re excited to see evolve?

I’ve four children and they are all very talented artists.

What is the strangest food combo that you love?

Fruit toast too much butter, nutella and sour Davidson plum jam.

If you have one, what is your spirit animal?

The Chinese say it’s a snake, I don’t know if I appreciate the sentiment, but I’ll go with that.

Do you have a favourite quote or mantra that you live by?

“The rich don’t work for money” -Robert kiyosaki

What is your favourite snack when working on big projects?

Fruit from my trees. Coffee, and more coffee.

Does music impact your art? What kind of music do you create to?

I still listen to triple J.
