Emily Hastie | New Dawn, New Day

There they flit and dance, proud sprites in the morning light. Singing exuberantly for all the world to hear, those who choose to listen will heed our feathered friends’ message: to embrace each new day with bold and radiant joy.

The superb fairy-wren may be gone within decades. And yet, they are adapting, their kin feeding mothers more richly for larger eggs, coding resilience into the next generation. Let us behold the exquisite fragility of a species singing and the fierce, quiet intelligence of life refusing to surrender.

About the Artist

Emily Rose Hastie is a Burleigh-based artist and cofounder of the artist-run cooperative Mint Art House, housing 14+ resident artists. Her practice is grounded in a reverence for the natural world, with each work representing a dialogue between artist and material, the unique grain of timber becoming an active collaborator in her storytelling.

Exploring themes of connection, identity, and place, Emily’s practice is driven by a deep desire to honour, protect, and preserve nature through meditative mark-making and the element of fire as a creative tool.
