Founder and Executive Artistic Director of the SWELL Sculpture Festival (SWELL), Natasha Edwards has led an extraordinary 24-year journey expanding both permanent and temporary public art. Under her visionary leadership, SWELL has become a cultural cornerstone, significantly enhancing Queensland’s arts and cultural landscape. The festival is now renowned for uniting local, national, and international artists in Queensland’s largest free outdoor public art and sculpture exhibition.

Natasha’s unwavering commitment to fostering creativity has empowered artists from diverse backgrounds, nurtured sustainable careers, and championed inclusion. She actively encourages intergenerational audiences to engage with public art, connecting People, Art, and Place. A strong advocate for diversity in the arts, Natasha promotes a more equitable and representative cultural landscape. Her vision for exhibitions and programs that reflect human diversity continues to inspire both artists and audiences, leaving a lasting impact on her community and beyond.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to arts and culture on the Southern Gold Coast, Natasha received an Honorary Doctorate from Griffith University (Doctor of the University) and is also on the Board of Directors of the Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce. She is a highly regarded contributor to the arts, with prestigious accolades including the City of Gold Coast 2013 Australia Day Cultural Achievement Award, the International Women’s Day Leadership Award for Innovation, and the 2022 Gold Coast Bulletin Women of the Year, Stars of Art & Tourism Award. Her enduring achievements underscore her transformative influence in the arts and cultural sphere.
