Claudia De Salvo & Laura Cope

Claudia and Laura are two ceramicists, working together to collaboratively explore storytelling and narrative through domestic ware and sculptural forms.
Laura, a North London born citizen of Aotearoa, migrated to Australia in 2020 and is currently making work in their studio residence at Salamanca Arts Centre, Lutruwita Tasmania. Using traditional hand building techniques and repeated motifs, Laura transforms simple forms into fictitious worlds.
Claudia is an Australian ceramicist, making work in her hinterland studio on Bundjalung country, Gold Coast. Her work often references traditional forms in an effort to playfully combine nostalgia, whimsy and the ornamental.
Community Housing Project
A community housing project in a post-apocalyptic world, built for bugs, critters and little crawly things. This work imagines a post-human future where artefacts are repurposed, and carcasses inhabited. In this world, objects that were originally intended to signify human and historical significance, now form a functional landscape. They provide shelter and water for the little creatures perpetuating the earth’s ongoing and eternal ecosystem.
