Charlie Trivers

Charlie Trivers is an Australian sculptor who lives and works on the Central Coast north of Sydney NSW. He has a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the UNSW College of Fine Arts Sydney. His sculpture practice spans over 35 years and is a member of the Sculpture by the Sea Bondi Decade Club. Trivers was awarded the Kodak Sculpture Prize in 2004 for his sculpture ‘Fishbottle Quartet’. He has exhibited in over 100 group exhibitions including the 10th Kajima Sculpture Competition in Tokyo and Osaka in 2007 and the Toyamura International Sculpture Biennale in Hokkaido Japan in 2004. Over his career Trivers has explored various themes and worked with a variety of materials and scales. Common to all is a keen interest in the natural coastal environment; a social commentary to the human impact on the planet and humour as a communication device.
Forever For Now
This sculpture is a dissonance of two different sources to the sculptors own biomorphic language. The first is Tafoni which is the natural weathering process found in coastal sandstone formations and secondly Haustoria, which are root like structures that grow into or around its host. This contradiction of ideas evokes thoughts of a life form that both props itself to provide actual physical and compositional balance.
Come and see for yourself at SWELL Sculpture Festival, Pacific Parade, Currumbin 12th – 21st September.
