About Burleigh Men’s Shed
Something New Sculpture is a true collaboration of skilled and talented people with lifetimes of experience. The working lives of the participants have been in areas such as manufacturing, carpentry, engineering and business. Beyond these acquired lifetime skills these people have undertaken technical and practical training courses in painting, woodwork, carving and machinery Individuals create and build work for sale benefiting the shed, for the assistance of people with special needs and community projects. The result of this variety of skills, teamwork and learning should be an interesting result.
2022 SWELL ARTWORK – Something New, Burleigh Men’s Shed
The desire to enter SWELL as exhibitors came from the members of the Burleigh Heads Men’s Shed. There was a will to take this opportunity to gain exposure for the activities of the shed in a fun and entertaining light. The men’s shed is an active participant in community, charitable and individual service; it amounts to helping out with whatever and whoever walks in the door on a daily basis. Membership is over 60 individuals ranging from young men to quite old. The sculpture is intended for fun and entertainment. It is an example of new skills being learnt in an environment of being willing to learn and willing to teach at men’s sheds around the world. Woodwork is just one example. Companionship and collaboration is the theme.
