About Irene Messia
Irene was born in Rome, Italy in 1988. While still at school Irene did additional external studies at San Giacomo Art Academy in Rome. When she finished school, she spent the next few years pursuing training at various art institutions including the “Accademia Via Ripetta” and then the University of Rome where she studied ‘History of Art’ and graduated in 2014.
Immediately after graduation Irene decided to spend her time traveling, including Australia, where she lived for two years and where she had her first solo exhibition.
After that experience she moved to London where she has been involved in the creation of various wall commissions, and she also worked as a studio and painter assistant.
In 2019 Irene decided to come back to Australia, where she now lives and practises her art.
2022 SWELL ARTWORK – Embraces the World, Irene Messia
This is my tribute to nature and the natural world; the nature of which we are a part, but which Man seems to forget by positioning himself as an outsider. By attempting to dominate, Man thus creates devastating imbalances that impact not only our relationship with nature but with ourselves—the internal. This process is made even more evident in an era dominated by technology.
Contemplate nature in all its beauty, calmness and brutal rawness. We shall find peace and a reconnection of the self in our embrace of nature.
