2022 SWELL ARTWORK – Affordable Housing, Jim Blower
With increasing economic hardship and the threat of homelessness, the ability to buy a home or afford rental housing has already become out of reach for many in ‘The Lucky Country’ – a term that was ironic when first used in the title of Donald Horne’s 1964 book, and is equally ironic now. This sculpture calls attention to what is our basic human need for shelter and security. When will we, with our elected governments and councils, finally come up with real and lasting solutions to the housing crisis in our midst?
