About Dearne Dettrick

Dearne has degrees in both architecture and visual art. Her interest lies in the intersection of creative thought and design to enhance experience at a human scale. Dearne’s art practice is centred around ideas of fragility and connection. These themes have been integral in her artistic investigations and Dune Daisy is a natural extension of ideas previously explored. Past work includes street interventions and gallery exhibitions. Dearne enjoys rethinking common building materials and expanding possibilities removed from traditional construction constraints.

2023 SWELL ARTWORK – Dune Daisy

Dune Daisy is a reimagined beachfront bloom. Fragility is replaced by a strong geometric form merging the built and the natural. The translucent bloom unfurls upwards and spreads illuminated yellow across the sand. This textured wash moves throughout the day dancing to the path of the sun. Briefly into the night Dune Daisy remains active with a hypnotic soft light from its core, evoking a connection to a dreamy mycorrhizal network below Currumbin’s sandy shores.
