About Frances Scherrer

Frances Scherrer is classically trained and studied Figurative Sculpture and Drawing in an atelier environment at the Florence Academy of Art (FAA), Florence, Italy. In her nascent artistic practice Scherrer is exploring through the medium of sculpture, a reconnection to the Australian landscape after many years abroad. On a theoretical level she is exploring our relationship with nature and the environment, and pursuing research on the role of art and aesthetics in developing cultures of sustainability. She is passionate about exploring the human condition through a direct study of nature.

2023 SWELL ARTWORK – Serenity

The sculpture ‘Serenity’ aims to capture my connection and aesthetic response to the power of the Australian coastal landscape. The portrait’s closed eyes, textured surface and resultant play of light conveys the essence of looking inward, an elevated or meditative state. In direct contrast the reclining figure embodies a strong physical presence communicating the innate response of the senses to the raw physical environment, the elements of sand, sea, sun and wind….
