About Irene Messia
Irene was born and trained in Rome. She studied art at Mario Mafai Art School in Rome, during this time Irene did additional external studies attending the three-year painting course at San Giacomo Art school.
When she finished school, she spent the next few years pursuing training at various art institutions including the Art Academy of Rome and then the University Rome Tre where she studied ‘History of Art’ and graduated in 2014. Immediately after graduation Irene moved to Australia.
In 2017 she was in London where she has been involved in the creation of various wall commissions, and she also worked as a studio and painter assistant.
In 2019 Irene came back to Australia, where she now lives and practises her art.
2023 SWELL ARTWORK – The Newborn
‘The Newborn’ represents a new era that will bring a new awareness of what it means to be in this world – live in harmony with nature.
Also, the two different types of stone I used for this piece represent the connection of two different cultures (marble from Italy and sandstone from Australia).
