2023 SWELL ARTWORK – Reminisce Surfers Sixty-One

Honouring Betty Quelhurst, Surfers Paradise iMotivated by the social interactions on our Surfers Paradise beaches in the 50’s and 60’s. Trent Paul Firmin’s sculpture ‘Reminisce Surfers Sixty-One’ is an ode to the beach culture of the Gold Coast. Inspired by the ‘Windbreaks, Surfers 61’ painting by Betty Quelhurst, Firmin references the leisurely scene of finding protection and privacy on the beach, a step back in time, the bright coloured panels reflecting surf club flags and culture of mid-century Surfers.
