Mick Brown has been an oil painter and airbrush artist for the best part of his life. Mick discovered the world of sculpture last year when he entered Swell Sculpture Festival for the first time. It is fair to say Mick has found his new love in sculpture.
Can you describe your creative process from concept to completion?
As I go about my daily activities, I see shapes and images that plant seeds for ideas in my head. Once an idea is growing I can’t let it go until I create it. I draw my concept many times then plan how I will make it come to life. The concept often changes though out construct with ideas being born.
Where do you look for inspiration? What themes do you find most interesting?
I love animals and nature. I also love classic cars and machinery so I endeavour to merge the 2 together.
What role does location or environment play in your sculptures?
We are all a product of our environment so I try to surround myself with people I enjoy being around, visiting places that inspire me and balancing work and personal life.
How do you feel when you see people interacting with your sculptures?
This is what it’s all about. Seeing the emotional reactions of the viewer gives me a sense of fulfilment and is the ultimate reward for the blood sweet and tears.
Describe your dream project.
I am living the dream each time I build a sculpture for Swell.
