Suzy syme & Andrew costa

A fortuitous 2012 encounter between fine arts student Suzy Syme and architecture student Andrew Costa sparked a lifelong partnership, united by their love of nature, design, and discovery. Suzy joined Andrew on the architectural path, and in 2022, they founded Costa Syme Architects. Their work combines artistic creativity with complex problem-solving, using algorithmic modeling to create 3D printed sculptures inspired by natural wonders like Australia’s coral reefs. Suzy and Andrew aim to enrich lives and provoke conversations about preserving the natural world through their nature-inspired art and design.
Coralescence is a heartfelt tribute to Australia’s magnificent coral reefs; an ode to euphoric memories exploring our stunning reefs and a soulful memoriam for coral lost to degradation, bleaching, and cyclonic impact. In an era of cutting-edge technology and construction, Coralescence hopes to inspire a renewed wave of conservation: one of active intervention, building the foundations for coral to grow and for our reef ecosystems to flourish in restored glory.
Come and see for yourself at SWELL Sculpture Festival, Pacific Parade, Currumbin 6th – 15th September.
