Chainsaw Newton

“I believe there’s an intrinsic beauty in giving materials and tools a second life.”
“Happiness is a loud chainsaw.”

Three colossal dung beetles, their charred wooden forms carved by chainsaw, march across Currumbin’s beach front.
These remarkable creatures are a social commentary on our environmental footprint, celebrating and paying tribute to nature’s original recyclers while delivering a powerful message about human impact on our planets resources.
Like their tiny counterparts, these larger-than-life beetles – with their striking black legs and glossy carapaces – push massive two-metre high spheres made of reclaimed waste materials.
Their bold silhouettes stand dramatic against the golden sand and azure sky, locked in a Sisyphean task that transforms waste into possibility.
Australia hosts 475 native dung beetle species, with 25 more strategically introduced to tackle the cattle industry’s waste challenges.
These industrious insects demonstrate how working with nature’s systems can create a more sustainable future – helping nature help ourselves.
