Jai Hackl

Jai Hackl learned to weld as a fitter and machinist in mines around Australia. Disillusioned with the mining industry’s negative impacts on the environment, he now uses his skills to create custom artworks that reflect his close connection to the land and water. From his workshop in the Northern Rivers, Jai has created large-scale metal and timber sculptures for leading brands and businesses. He has a particular interest in blending aesthetic elegance with practical and functional design.
Master of peace
This sculpture is made from the steel and timber left over from a devastating fire that destroyed the artist’s house and workshop, and almost claimed the life of his sister.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, the pursuit of stand-up barrels became a way to find peace – to wash away anxiety.
We all go through hard times, but not everyone gets to experience the redemptive power of being barrelled.
Here, on dry land, that feeling is offered up to all.
Come and see for yourself at SWELL Sculpture Festival, Pacific Parade, Currumbin 12th – 21st September.
