ABOUT
John Nesirky is a Townsville based visual artist and musician. His time served as a timber boat builder has influenced his sculptural approach. The process of bending and shaping timber has led him to pushing the medium to its limits. His recent work explores the translucent properties of timber veneers taken to extreme fineness. Using veneers paired down to fractions of a millimetre the timber reveals its cellular colouration; creating a flexible but strong form.
SWELL 2025 ARTWORK
Snake in the Wood
2025, the Year of the Snake, offers a timely opportunity to spotlight our often-overlooked endangered reptiles. These remarkable creatures, though not always embraced with the same warmth as their furry, warm-blooded counterparts, play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. Their quiet presence is essential to many ecosystems, yet they frequently struggle to inspire the same compassion. This work serves as a reminder that all species, regardless of our personal preferences hold intrinsic value and deserve equal respect and protection.
