Reuben Mergard

Born in 1997 and raised by industrial designers in Brisbane, Australia, Reuben Mergard lives and works along the South East Queensland coastline.
Ranging from sculptural assemblages to film photographic studies, Mergard’s practice explores the nature of man, the made, and the land inhabited by both. Emerging from his paper folding practice, his most recent works include his “pod” structures: a series of polyhedral forms assembled from modular shapes and situated in rugged landscape settings.
Immersed in a creatively focused household since birth, the content of Mergard’s work revolves primarily around moments of creative formation. In an endevour to better understand the role of those who make, he walks the borders between the formed and unformed, the intentional and incidental, the now and not yet worlds.
