What was the inspiration behind your piece for SWELL Sculpture Festival 2023?
Two books were percolating in my mind at the time of conception for Finity. Clockwork by Philip Pullman and The Music of Chance by Paul Auster. To me both are stories about life, chronos-time and the cost of the pursuit of a legacy.
As an artist, how do you manage a work-life balance?
By allowing mind-wandering.
By prioritising rest.
By stretching work hours.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? Either professionally or socially
That growing is critical for wellbeing.
Cold or warm weather and why?
Warmth allows my mind to wander. Cold reminds me of reality.
Where do you find inspiration?
Every moment percolates into my mind-soup.
Which Disney character do you relate to the most?
Mirabel in Encanto. Such depth and nuance in all of the characters and the story of family.
As an artist, how do you manage a work-life balance?
By not answering the same question twice! Haha.

If its morning it’s coffee. If it’s afternoon it’s tea.
SWELL is all about connecting people, art and place, how does your work help connect people, art and place?
My work is very specific to Currumbin beach in September. It’s still dry season so the mornings are sunny and still, the afternoons dry and windy, the evenings magical and still. The key component is sand is from the beach. People will see that the sand is the same and that it has been changed by the actions of the artwork.
What was the biggest challenge you faced during the creation of your artwork?
Finding the perfect crane.
Do you have a party trick or impressive icebreaker talent?
I have different coloured eyes.
You walk into a bar… what’s the first drink you order?
Negroni.
