Description
Made principally of wood from a locally felled ironbark tree, “Sprout” reveals a roughly hewn material richness, complimented with river rock and mesh. Ironbark, a dark red, native hardwood, has a potent material presence and strength. “Sprout” has a feeling of organic growth, with its dual related forms emerging from a ground of ancient, colourful Helidon sandstone. Anna Bonshek’s work speaks to the vitality and irrepressibility of nature. It also displays an architectural quality — in keeping with Anna’s larger works, including “Play” — featured at SWELL Sculpture Festival.
