I Once Was A Forest continues the artist’s recurring use of the house as a symbol of home and planet. Tree forms seemingly grow out of house-shaped timber with roots carved and painted on the face. By drawing attention to the tree’s journey from forest to construction timber, the work reconnects the final, built structure to the original tree. We are asked to consider the often-hidden relationship between everyday materials and the living world. A tree becomes a house; a house remembers the forest of its origins.
