SITE & SITUATION 2023

PUBLIC ART CONVERSATIONS | AN INITIATIVE OF CITY OF GOLD COAST | CURATED BY SWELL SCULPTURE

In alignment with the City of Gold Coast Culture Strategy and Public Art Policy, the City of Gold Coast developed a forum and workshop series – Site and Situation – to provide opportunities for the local community and arts sector to engage in critical dialogue around public art and provide skills development workshops for local artists.

This unique series aims to invite creative thinking, inspire community discussion, and build confidence in the benefits of public art. The workshop component contributes to the professional development of Gold Coast public art practitioners.

Site and Situation is a free three-part public art series featuring three invited national arts professionals delivering thought-provoking public art talks and industry workshops. The public forums explore how cities can be transformed through public art, and how responding to site and situation with authentic storytelling builds civic pride and social cohesion.

This series invites discussion around three curated topics: the role of a public art curator, how public art can help communities with disaster recovery, and the politics of place.

The workshops will focus on the sharing of knowledge around the invited speakers’ presentations and will have a physical outcome.
