The turtle is a sacred figure in some cultures, as it symbolises Mother Earth. The meaning of the turtle symbol signifies good health, fertility and long life. However, since the 1940s, mass produced plastic has increasingly become a part of turtle diets with devastating effects. From stunted growth, reduced reproduction and death. A single ingestion of plastic has long lasting consequences.
