SWELL Smalls Gallery 2023 Artwork – Méduse

Oceans no longer breathe. ‘Dead zones’ exist, where animals die. Oxygen-depleted spots in the ocean that come about because of pollution. Warming oceans, coupled with the dead zones provide the terrain for the proliferation of jellyfish, such that has never existed since the beginning of time. ‘Méduse’ is a representation of an age-old, organism. The focus is on toxic contamination and the important role jellyfish will play in the filtering of microplastic nanoparticles.

This translucent sea creature, that has no brain, no blood, no heart, represents hope, despite destructive human activity.
