SIP & SCULPT WITH JO NORTON
Sip on a glass of wine whilst being guided through the process of sculpting your own sculpture by local ceramicist Jo Norton. During the masterclass, you will learn Kurinuki, a traditional Japanese form of hand-building.
The word means ‘carving out’ and it involves shaping a solid block of clay, then carving out a vessel to create ‘interior space’. It is a sculptural approach to making the interior of the piece just as important as the exterior. In the workshop, you will have the opportunity to make Yunomi (handless teacup) or two sake cups.
Tuition, inspiration, and simple tools provided. Your work will be twice fired and be available for collection 4-6 weeks after the workshop.

An artist whose medium is clay. A studio potter working in a converted warehouse not far from the ocean. Clay is a medium that allows me to create an idea through the use of colour, texture and form. My work is informed by the details and repetition found in the monumental and the minuscule, the shifts and changes marked by time; natural and manmade. A new idea takes shape; the first piece inspires the next; several pieces become part of a series; variations initiate a new idea and the cycle begins again…
