Finding Your Way
Finding Your Way is an interactive art installation created by artists Blair Garland and Russell Solomon (BLUSS). Developed in response to a curatorial brief, the work explores themes of diversity, multiculturalism, and interconnected community. As part of the project’s community engagement, BLUSS led creative workshops with students from Currumbin Community Special School, celebrating the kids’ unique voices and shared experiences.
We encourage you to pick up an exclusive SWELL Passport at any SWELL Info Hub to collect frottage rubbings, sketch, and document your journey through the festival! Follow the trail to discover 8 tactile frottage plates mounted on dark blue posts with gold designs wrapping their trunks (the colours of the Australian Passport, you can’t miss them!). The posts are designed for you to frottage (make rubbings from) directly into your passport, personalising your journey and helping you Find Your Way.

What to look for:
- Eight dark blue posts with gold designs wrapped around their trunks. On the face of these posts is a golden frottage plate for rubbing the image into your SWELL PASSPORT.
About BLUSS
Based in Redcliffe, Blair Garland and Russell Solomon are life partners and visual artists collaborating as BLUSS. Their multidisciplinary practice spans public artwork, sculptural installations, and community workshops informed by their long-term service in the disability sector.
Blair, an award-winning artist and curator, investigates social identity and suburban life through photography and sculpture. Russell is a master of wire sculpture, exploring the intersection of nature and human impact.
Together, they create evocative, site-specific works – such as Delimitation, States of Emergency and The Social Identity Theory – that challenge perceptions and invite dialogue, blending their distinct expertise into a unified, thought-provoking, and accessible artistic vision.

About the Inclusive Arts Program
With support from the National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) and Creative Gold’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), SWELL were able to share the beauty of art with the new generation of Currumbin locale. In 2026, SWELL Sculpture Festival is proud to deliver ‘Finding Your Way,’ a multi-sensory storytelling artwork developed through creative workshops at Currumbin Community Special School with culturally and linguistically diverse students living with a disability.
The Inclusive Arts Program is delivered as part of Creative Gold, a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Council-led initiative. RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and the City of Gold Coast Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. This program is support by National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA).
