What was the inspiration behind the piece that is a part of the SWELL Sculpture Festival 2021?
It is part of a ‘sensory series’ I’m working on.
Do you follow a process or plan for each new piece or do you ‘wing it’?
There’s usually a process… but there’s also times when you have to react to current events, climate or other injustices to give focus and rally against complacency.
Would you describe your artistic journey as a slow burn or a wild ride?
It’s a slow, organised, sensible burn until it’s done, THEN it’s a wild ride when it’s unleashed.
Can you tell us a little bit more about how you became the artist that you are today?
Working with children in the disability sector has expanded how I see things in a more diverse way and afforded alternative viewpoints.
Describe your ideal environment where your creative juices flow?
Working in my studio uninterrupted for hours with no other time restrictions is a wonderful idea.
Is there an artist or body of work that you would consider your muse?
Ceal Floyer and Rebecca Horn.
If you had to choose 3 words to describe your artistic style, what would they be?
Conceptual, minimal and interactive.
Beyond SWELL 2021, is there a forthcoming project you are most excited about?
I am just about to start an internship!
What does exhibiting in SWELL 2021 mean to you?
SWELL is a show that is always welcoming and accessible for both artists and audiences alike.
Is there anything you do to continue developing as an artist? Would you describe yourself as self-taught or formally educated in your practice?
Being interested and curious in the conversations and people around you.
If you were to go on a holiday, would you venture to the ocean or the mountains?
I love both. The therapeutic nature of swimming in the ocean, but also climbing mountains and being up really high anywhere.
Gourmet restaurant or home-cooked meal?
Healthy home cooked vegetarian meal.
How would you describe your taste in music?
60’s Jazz and R&B, 80’s Pop.
