What was the inspiration behind the piece that is a part of the SWELL Sculpture Festival 2021?

Connection of vessels to people, land and sea.

Do you follow a process or plan for each new piece or do you ‘wing it’?

A bit of both, it starts with planning.

Would you describe your artistic journey as a slow burn or a wild ride?

Cycles between slow burn and wild ride, depending on the day.

Can you tell us a little bit more about how you became the artist that you are today?

My arts practice has evolved from a fascination of how ideas come into the world, each artwork has really grown from this.

Describe your ideal environment where your creative juices flow?

When I’m on or in the water.

Is there an artist or body of work that you would consider your muse?

Kinetic Artworks – Anthony Howe.

If you had to choose 3 words to describe your artistic style, what would they be?

Playful, engaging, thought provoking – damn that’s now four words.

Beyond SWELL 2021, is there a forthcoming project you are most excited about?

A permanent sculpture for the Kangaroo Island Sculpture Trail.

What does exhibiting in SWELL 2021 mean to you?

People, place, ideas and a coastal environment.

Is there anything you do to continue developing as an artist? Would you describe yourself as self-taught or formally educated in your artistic practice?

Follow ideas that catch my imagination. I’m a bit of a blend between formally educated and self-taught through practice.

Would you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert? Do you think this is conveyed through your work?

Extroverted, yes.

Is there an artist that you would love to collaborate with?

Karl De Waal – seriously!

How do you structure your day?

Breakfast, studio, coffee, work, coffee, work, food, sleep.
