What was the inspiration behind the piece that is a part of the SWELL Sculpture Festival 2021?

I was interested in exploring the intersections between the weather, technology and constructs of time.

Do you follow a process or plan for each new piece or do you ‘wing it’?

The development and fabrication of new work is planned, however tests, experiments and changes are all keys parts that make up this process too.

Would you describe your artistic journey as a slow burn or a wild ride?

I would say there are elements of both!

Can you tell us a little bit more about how you became the artist that you are today?

A combination of many things; lived experience, research and an openness to experimentation and change.

Describe your ideal environment where your creative juices flow?

An ideal environment would include an open studio, workshop and outside spaces.

Is there an artist or body of work that you would consider your muse?

Roman Signer.

If you had to choose 3 words to describe your artistic style, what would they be?

Spatial, poetic, environmental.

Beyond SWELL 2021, is there a forthcoming project you are most excited about?

I am excited to continue investigating the de-materialisation of weather balloons on canvas and the impact of technology and environmental conditions on this process.

What does exhibiting in SWELL 2021 mean to you?

A fantastic opportunity to showcase my work to a diverse audience alongside many other outstanding artists.

Is there anything you do to continue developing as an artist? Would you describe yourself as self-taught or formally educated in your practice?

I graduated a BFA with 1st Class Honours and since have continued to research and experiment beyond my formal education.

What food would you consider your guilty pleasure?

Apple crumble.

What skill or talent have you always wished you could master?

CAD.

If you possessed a superpower, what would it be?

Air bender.
