Fusing scientific wonder and artistic vision, this piece reflects the surreal and hauntingly elegant inhabitants of this dark realm, the heartbeat of our planet, capturing their delicate balance of fragility and resilience. By illuminating their existence, I hope to inspire a deeper connection to the wonders of our natural world and highlight the essential role these creatures play in our planet’s health.

About the Artist
Jo Elliott’s practice focuses on the parallels between artistic process and scientific method, drawing on her years as a scientist and combining her curiosity, thirst for knowledge and desire to create. Elliott has always been drawn to and captivated by the study of the natural world, particularly the Australian coastline with its ecological significance and fragility which is often a subject matter of her work. Elliott has been involved in numerous large-scale collaborative, group, and solo exhibitions including, Tern up Sawtell, Sculpture By The Sea, SWELL Sculpture Festival, The Overwintering Project, The White Bluff Project, The Art Space Small Sculpture Prize and the Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize. Elliott holds an Advanced Diploma in Visual Art and works in the Arts sector. In earlier professional life, Elliott completed a Bachelor of Science specialising in coastal ecology and environmental management, working in both private and government sectors across Australia and abroad.
