Description
Fairy Circle/Changelings draws on childhood stories of mushroom circles being portals to the fae realm, and the Irish mythology of changelings and how they would leave their own child to die thinking they had been replaced by the fae folk. Modern interpretations explain the foundation of these superstitions as the child’s neurodiversity making itself known. As iron was historically used to ward off those from the other realm, Fairy Circle/Changelings allows one to peer through the veil, and see one’s Changeling from the other side.

About the Artist
Alex Wixted is an Artistic Blacksmith based in Brisbane, who uses steel like ink and transforms it into a medium for storytelling. His work explores the fluid nature of a solid element through a blend of traditional blacksmithing techniques and modern artistic innovation, resulting in unique forged sculptural works. Drawing from nature, the human experience, and the role blacksmithing has played in his own sense of self, Wixted’s works reflect the resilience and complexity of both metal and spirit. Wixted’s sculptures invites viewers to discover through fire and embedded in steel that which is often ephemeral, dismissed or misunderstood in life.
