Description
The Perfect Mother critiques the idealised perceptions of the feminine, challenging the notion that the beauty of motherhood lies in the calm, serene, and nurturing while disregarding the multidimensional complexities of its reality. The woven copper wire symbolises women’s work—the unseen labour that often goes unnoticed yet weaves the very fabric of the domestic sphere. Due to financial and space limitations, Megan works with reclaimed copper wire, creating this piece on the kitchen door—reflecting the constraints of motherhood, where time, space, and resources are often out of reach.

About the Artist
Megan Robinson is a practicing visual artist, based on the sunshine coast. Experimenting across multimedia, her work is autobiographical, reflecting on lived experience to find her voice as a woman and a mother in an environment that has previously stripped her of it. Through this exploration of identity, gender, and motherhood she reflects on everyday pressures, sacrifices and quiet beauty. Weaving and other mediums pay homage to women historically, while questioning the slow recognition of their contributions in the art world.
