This work relates to the organic and unique forms found in rocks. The title ‘You are my rock’ , a playful pun on words, it is both literal and metaphoric. During Mon’s first visit to Australia in 2005, she spent 9 months travelling around. Finding herself predominantly in nature she was captivated by the many wonders this land shares.
Mon learnt to weave with natural fivers a year ago while also learning pottery. Instantly both ancestral art practices found a connection in her hands.

About Mon Manabu
Mon Manabu has been a creative artist since 2006. Her work has developed from painting to photography to mix media and finally she has found her true passion in ceramics.
Clay gives her the opportunity to use her hands to create endless forms, adapting her painting and design skills to build sculptural bodies of work.
While studying Fine Arts in Barcelona, Mon was awarded an Arts Grant from SCU. She arrived in Australia in 2011 to specialise in creative art. She then went on to develop a decorative line of artworks, to finally focus on ceramics after finishing the Diploma in Ceramics at Tafe in December 2023.
Mon’s work has always been influenced by Japanese Aesthetics. Wabi-Sabi caught her attention while starting to study ceramics, including asymmetry, roughness and irregularities. She believes that the beauty that is in the imperfection is what makes every piece unique with its own soul.
