Description

3:33 is a series of three woven baskets. Each basket is comprised of thirty three weavers, is woven as a 3/3 twill sequence, and is identified by the unique number of red weavers, being either one, two, or three. Throughout history and across many cultures, the number three holds unique significance. Considered the perfect number, three is associated with balance, harmony and unity. For a woven 3/3 twill basket, however, thirty three weavers creates an unbalanced base and therefore a basket that sits off-kilter, the imperfect balance.

About the Artist

With an incurable fascination of warps and wefts, and their limitless potential of interlacements, Pip is a multi-award winning artist specialising in handweaving. Creating both 2D and 3D artworks across a number of art and craft disciplines, with the fundamentals of weaving always at the core of her work, Pip reflects on our relationship with weaving and the delicate, harmonious balance of tension between warp and weft elements in the creation of woven fabric or objects. Likening the harmony of the tension of warp and weft to metaphors about life enables Pip to explore themes of community, sustainability and coexisting with nature.
