Description
The majestic black breasted buzzard inspired this piece. This Australian native is a majestic, crafty and interesting bird. Mated for life they build the largest nests of any raptor. Cleverly, they use rocks as tools to break open their favourite eggs and line their nests with fresh greens thought to protect the immune systems of their young. This piece, a collaboration of two artists’, both inspired by the wonders of the natural world, pays homage to these beautiful, intelligent creatures who we share this corner of the planet with.
Materials The main body is crafted in dark matter clay, the wings in handworked steel the feet in hand bent rebar and the tail feathers are from the Bangalow Palm. The whole piece sits on a slab of local sandstone.

About the Artist
Victoria works in clay and mixed media. Her pieces tell stories, commenting on the world around her: on pressing issues of the day, and the wonder of the natural world. With an eclectic design background, from work systems design and creative approaches to transformational change in organisations, through furniture design – working mainly with wood, Victoria uses the varied terrain of past experience to enrich the design of her current bodies of work – brought to life in clay.
Paula Duri (www.pauladuri.com.ar) is an Argentinan metal artist. She seeks to connect with the origin, and for this is inspired by nature. The aesthetics of her pieces are primitive with a strong poetic intention. The external form is an excuse, but it is inseparable from the raw material, iron. It is important for her to represent in symbolic images our origins, awakening memories of the past, since we are remnants of other lives.
