Description
Wendy Lane’s work explores the harmonious fusion of ceramics and natural materials, inspired by her coastal and hinterland walks in South East Queensland. In this piece, a uniquely shaped piece of coral cradles a ceramic octopus with a tourist bus in its tentacles, symbolising a humorous take on tourism on the Gold Coast. Lane’s art practice blends the power of connection with nature, creating sculptural works that evoke a sense of freedom, balance, fun, and introspection. Through her work, she invites viewers to explore beauty, nature, self healing, and self-discovery.

About the Artist
Gold Coast artist Wendy Lane began her creative journey in 2019 after a health crisis forced her to slow down and reconnect with clay. This time of healing led her to the Gold Coast Potters Association, where she rediscovered her passion for ceramics. With a background in psychology, Wendy’s work explores the healing power of nature. Inspired by the discarded elements of the natural world—such as driftwood and plant matter—she combines these with ceramic sculpture to create pieces that evoke a sense of renewal and connection. Wendy’s practice invites viewers to see beauty in overlooked materials, much as she did during her own recovery. Now, she shares her love for clay through pottery kits, events, and art experiences, encouraging others to explore the therapeutic possibilities of art and nature.
