SITE & SITUATION 2022

PUBLIC ART CONVERSATIONS | AN INITIATIVE OF CITY OF GOLD COAST | CURATED BY SWELL SCULPTURE.

In alignment with the City of Gold Coast Culture Strategy 2023 and Public Art Policy, the City developed a forum and workshop series – Site & Situation – to provide opportunities for the local community and arts sector to engage in critical dialogue around public art and attend skills development workshops with the people who create it.

This unique series aims to invite creative thinking and inspire community discussion and build confidence in the benefits of public art among stakeholders of the City of Gold Coast.  The workshop component contributes to the professional development of our region’s public art practitioners.

Site and Situation is a three-part public art series featuring three invited national arts professionals delivering thought-provoking public art talks, question and answer sessions and industry workshops. The public forums explore how cities can be transformed through public art, and how responding to site and situation with authentic storytelling builds civic pride and social cohesion while profiling the city as a cultural destination.

This series invites discussion around three curated topics: The art of sustainability, transforming cities through public art and connecting to Country. The workshops will focus on the sharing of knowledge around the invited speakers’ presentations.
