SITELINES

SITELINES 2024

AN INITIATIVE OF CITY OF GOLD COAST | CURATED BY SWELL SCULPTURE

In alignment with the City of Gold Coast Culture Strategy and Public Art Policy, the City of Gold Coast and SWELL Sculpture have developed an artist in residency program and symposium with a strong focus on land art followed by a public art information session. SITELINES will provide opportunities for Gold Coast Artists to engage in hands on, inspiring large-scale sculpture builds and critical dialogue around public art. This unique program aims to invite artists to develop their own art practice for public art opportunities. Building capacity in transforming concepts to public artworks.

THERE ARE THREE ELEMENTS TO SITELINES 2024

1.     SITELINES ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Artist Residency Participants
8 Artists will be selected through an EOI process to participate as Land Art Assistants during the build process of Waterlines presented by SWELL Sculpture this April/May at Hinze Dam, Advancetown.

Paid Artist Residency Program

a)     THE BUILD

3 full days of hands-on build and mentoring with two lead exhibiting artists at Waterlines

a.       Marcus Tatton will work with 3 participants.
b.       Shannon Best will work with 5 participants.

Each participant will be invited to have a hands-on experience of working with temporary land art and will be an integral part of the build. Art Assistants will be required to attend the exhibition site from 8am to 5pm across their 3 designated days. Throughout this process the participants will learn about connecting to Country, working in a team, following a vision and design to build a temporary large scale public artwork from natural materials. They will learn about the meaning behind the works and the professional careers of the lead artists. They will also learn the specialised techniques and skills that are required for each work.

Participants will work with the SWELL Team to learn about the process of the builds, the consultation, the concepts, the logistics and stakeholder relationships, budget and more.

b)     SCULPTING WITH SOUND – A MASTERCLASS FOR VISUAL ARTISTS

Soundscape Kayak Experience and Sound Recording Masterclass

All 8 participants will attend a full day immersive masterclass with soundscape artist Corrina Bonshek. You will be invited to enjoy Waterlines Nature Spirit Kayak Listening Experience on the Hinze Dam with soundscape composed by Corrina Bonshek.

Followed by a five-hour class to experience how composer and visual thinker Corrina Bonshek approaches sound recording, sound manipulation, time and space in this hands-on workshop. Make your own short sound-work, whilst learning industry tips that you can apply to making future soundscapes for your sculptures. This will all take place in and around the Hinze Dam.
