When We Are Water - DeepBlue String Quartet
“When We Are Water” is a musical journey inspired by the profound connection between conservation and mindfulness, evoking the serenity of being carried by the ebb and flow of waves. In this immersive experience, the audience is invited to embrace the tranquillity of surrendering to the gentle push and pull of water’s movement, whilst being intimately close to two bespoke large sculptures.
This collaboration between Composer Zinia Chan, Hinze Dam, DeepBlue and SWELL Sculpture is an exploration of liberation and self-discovery through music, nature and sculpture. As the DeepBlue string quartet weaves intricate melodies they mirror the rhythmic patterns of nature, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in a state of mindful awareness.
The title “When We Are Water” encapsulates the essence of embracing one’s cultural identity within our unique communities, acknowledging the interconnectedness of humanity with the natural world. Through this performance, we embark on a voyage of introspection and release, allowing ourselves to flow freely like water and discover the beauty of being in harmony with our surroundings and our people.
“When We Are Water” is a two-part collaborative project supported by Australian Music Centre’s Momentum Commission Award and Cinque Artist Management.
