Description

Leaves falling accumulate on the forest floor as leaf litter. Myriads of invertebrates and bacteria decompose this ‘biomass’ into substances which can be absorbed by roots of trees and recycled by the forests which replenish the Earth. Colin lives and works in the forests of the Bellinger Valley, and gains ‘sustenance’ himself, crunching through the leaf litter and marvelling at this wonderful process. Crafted from hand-forged steel and copper bars, the sculpture showcases vegetation rising as a ‘crown’. The ring at the base symbolises the recycling of nutrients in nature.
