Description
A 3D city made from upcycled building timber offcuts. Architecturally there is a constant contrast of light & dark, tall & short, and thin & wide shapes that create our cities. The rawness of this sculpture suggests the degradation of our cities, that they are imperfect, and that they are growing in different ways that are not necessarily good. In modern times this is us creating civilisations always growing and expanding whilst humans feel smaller and smaller. The viewer now has a bird’s eye view thus taking back control.

About the Artist
Giuseppe has been creating artworks for over 40 years, originally from Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and migrating to the Western fringe of Brisbane. Stemming from proud Italian family and heritage that he is closely tied to. With a passion for all things Italian and if you ever get to visit his house, or drive in his car you will see this. His art is akin to social commentary, expressing experiences in different ways. Deeply concerned with worldly, immediate social and physical environments, has a passion for activism and heart for social justice. Practices upcycling and recycling waste materials in his work and his house. His work consists of sculptures, paintings, installation, video, public art and drawings. An educator with the Dept Education QLD and Education Victoria. He has also worked lecturing and tutoring in other institutions such as at USQ, QUT, La Trobe University and the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE.
