Corroded explores the beauty of decay through oxidation’s transformative effects. Inspired by the textures and hues of rust, this large ceramic ball reflects environmental impacts over time. Reimagining our industrial past, it celebrates its evolution into something raw and unexpected. By mimicking corroded metal, the work challenges viewers to question its materiality, blurring the line between clay and metal while inviting intrigue in the natural process of deterioration.

About the Artist
Jay, originally from the UK, is a ceramic artist passionate about clay’s transformative potential. Inspired by a lifelong love of arts and crafts, she creates work that balances beauty and intrigue, constantly exploring innovative techniques. In December 2023, Jay completed a Diploma of Ceramics at North Coast TAFE, NSW, further refining her skills. Now based in Mullumbimby, NSW, her studio practice blends wheel-thrown and hand-sculpted forms, highlighting her fascination with clay’s raw versatility and plasticity. Jay’s creations celebrate experimentation and the limitless possibilities of the medium, with the firing process providing a continual source of excitement and discovery. Each piece she produces reflects her dedication to pushing creative boundaries and her commitment to the art of ceramics.
