Description

Feathers have many different meanings, but they are always associated with spiritual connection, freedom, hope, peace. Many people will actively seek out and collect feathers, holding onto them for the peace and clarity they bring.

Milk bottles are used and discarded frequently, with little thought given to their lasting environmental impact.

Louise Gerzanics’ work ‘la plume’ featuring plastic milk bottles finely hand cut into feathers celebrates the juxtaposition of manufactured materials and nature, while actively playing with shadows, light, and layers.

About Louise Gerzanics

Shouldn’t every material have the chance, even just once, to look its absolute best? To break free from the conforms of the life for which it was produced and manufactured, and be reimagined into something extraordinary?

Working predominantly with trash, waste products, single use plastics, and discarded items, Louise has discovered there is a limitless supply of materials available. Her art pieces use items and materials that have been manufactured with a functional purpose, such as the humble plastic milk bottle. Her work is an exploration of the capabilities and creative potential of everyday, often mundane, materials. She investigates how these can be transformed into delicate, intricate, beautiful art pieces, therefore removing them from their trajectory to landfill.

Her work has a high level of intricate detail and precise design, layers of textures and repetition, and plays with light and shadows creating ever changing art.
